Terms of Service

Last updated 5 September 2026

These terms form a contract between Clearpath Labs Ltd (company no. 17145150, registered office 35 Floyer Close, Richmond, England, TW10 6HS) ("we", "us") - trading as SnapAddress - and the person or entity that signs up for an account ("you"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these terms.

Published 5 September 2026. For accounts created on or after that date these terms apply immediately. For accounts created before it, they take effect on 5 October 2026, in line with the notice period in clause 14; until then the version published on 1 July 2026 continues to apply.

1. The Service

SnapAddress provides a UK address lookup and autocomplete API, a dashboard for managing API keys and billing, and a WooCommerce plugin that calls the API (together, the "Service"). Address data is sourced from Royal Mail's Postcode Address File (PAF). The Service is offered only to customers acting in the course of a trade, business, craft or profession; it is not intended for consumers, and you should not sign up if you are acting as a consumer.

The Service is licensed to you for capturing or verifying the addresses of your own customers, on your website or application, for the supply of your goods or services. Tell us before using it for any other purpose - for example internal use by your staff, bulk processing of existing records, or embedding it in a product you supply to others - as different licence terms and fees may apply.

2. Your account

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials and API keys secret. Do not share API keys publicly, commit them to version control, or expose them in client-side code where they can be read by end users. You must use one account per legal entity. If you suspect your credentials are compromised, rotate them immediately from the dashboard.

3. Acceptable use

You may not:

  • use the Service to build, resell, or redistribute a bulk copy of the underlying PAF dataset - Royal Mail PAF licence terms prohibit this and we enforce it;
  • scrape or systematically enumerate addresses to reconstruct the dataset;
  • use the Service for unlawful purposes, to harass, or to process personal data without a lawful basis;
  • circumvent rate limits, share keys across unrelated parties, or operate the Service on behalf of a third party without our written agreement;
  • attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, or probe the Service for vulnerabilities outside a coordinated disclosure;
  • extract, copy or store address data to create or supplement any address database or list;
  • use the Service to cleanse, verify or enhance address databases on behalf of third parties;
  • represent your use of the Service as endorsed or approved by Royal Mail.

Autocomplete. Autocomplete and address-suggestion responses are not charged. They are provided as part of an address capture flow that ends in a lookup, and must not be used as a substitute for a lookup, to harvest or store address data, or to build or supplement any address database. Sustained suggestion traffic without corresponding lookups may be rate-limited or treated as a breach of these terms.

Records and audit. Royal Mail may audit use of PAF data. You agree to keep reasonable records of your use of the Service and to cooperate with any such audit on request.

You also agree to comply with the Royal Mail PAF End User Terms (Appendix A), which form part of these terms. Where there is any conflict between these terms and the PAF End User Terms in relation to use of the PAF data, the PAF End User Terms prevail.

4. Billing

Lookups and credits. One credit is spent for each completed lookup. A completed lookup is a request that returns address data: all addresses for a postcode (up to 100 addresses per request; larger postcodes return further pages, each of which is a lookup), or a single address retrieved by its identifier. A request that returns no matching address still counts as a lookup. Autocomplete and address-suggestion requests are not charged.

Credit packs. Paid plans are one-off credit packs bought via Stripe; there is no recurring subscription. Credits are sold in packs, in multiples of 100, for use by a single customer account, and cannot be transferred between accounts. Each pack is valid for 12 months from purchase (the activation date for licensing purposes), after which unused credits in that pack expire and are not refunded. This validity period is a requirement of our Royal Mail PAF licence. Topping up does not extend the validity of credits you already hold. Credits are spent oldest-expiring first. Pack prices are shown on the pricing page and are exclusive of VAT where applicable. New accounts include a free trial of 100 lookups, valid for 3 months from sign-up.

Credit packs are non-refundable once purchased. This is our commercial policy, and is separate from the licence-mandated validity period described above.

5. Rate limits

Each account has a rate limit, documented at /docs/rate-limits-and-errors. Usage draws down the credits on your account. We may adjust rate limits to protect Service stability; material changes will be communicated in advance.

6. Availability

We operate the Service on a best-effort basis and do not offer a contractual uptime SLA prior to general availability. We will work in good faith to keep the Service running and to communicate significant incidents.

7. Warranties and disclaimers

The Service and the address data it returns are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. Address data is sourced from Royal Mail's Postcode Address File and may contain errors, omissions, or out-of-date entries; we do not warrant that it is accurate, complete, or fit for any particular purpose. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free. To the maximum extent permitted by law we exclude all warranties, conditions, and terms implied by statute or common law.

8. Your data

Our handling of personal data is described in the Privacy Policy. Where we process personal data on your behalf (the lookup queries you send us), we act as your processor under the Data Processing Agreement, which forms part of these terms. You retain ownership of any data you submit to the Service. You grant us the rights necessary to operate the Service on your behalf.

9. Intellectual property

The SnapAddress brand, software, and documentation are owned by Clearpath Labs Ltd. Address data returned by the API is sourced from Royal Mail's Postcode Address File and subject to Royal Mail's terms of use. Royal Mail owns the intellectual property in PAF and the PAF brand; you acquire no rights in it beyond the use permitted by these terms. You receive a limited, non-exclusive licence to use the Service in accordance with these terms.

10. Termination

You can delete your account at any time from the dashboard. We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms or abuse the Service. On termination, access ceases immediately and any unused credits are forfeited and non-refundable. You must stop using the Service; address records you captured for your own orders and customers remain yours.

11. Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you under these terms is capped at the greater of (a) £100 or (b) the fees you paid us in the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim. Neither party is liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential loss. Nothing in these terms excludes liability for fraud, death, or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under UK law.

12. Indemnity

You will indemnify us against any loss, damage, cost, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from a third-party claim caused by your use of the Service in breach of these terms, your unlawful processing of personal data through the Service, or your infringement of a third party's rights.

13. Force majeure

We are not liable for any failure or delay in performing our obligations caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including failures of upstream providers (such as Royal Mail, or our hosting, database, payment, or email providers), or internet or power outages. We will take reasonable steps to resume normal service.

14. Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be notified by email and take effect 30 days after notice. Continued use of the Service after that date means you accept the updated terms.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will be handled by the courts of England and Wales.

16. General

These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, the Data Processing Agreement, and the Royal Mail PAF End User Terms, are the entire agreement between us and supersede any prior representations or marketing statements. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest continue in force. A delay in enforcing a term is not a waiver of it. You may not assign your rights under these terms without our written consent; we may assign ours, including on a sale or reorganisation of our business. Except as set out in this clause, no one other than you and us has any rights under these terms under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999. Royal Mail Group Limited may enforce clause 3 and the PAF End User Terms incorporated under it directly against you as a third party, and may recover from you any losses it incurs as a result of your breach of those terms. This reflects a requirement of our Royal Mail PAF licence.
